A friend sent me this speech by Pope Francis. As he said, it is worth a read regardless of your faith. So here goes: Pope Francis Speech on Happiness “You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you…
A friend recently sent me a couple of quotes which stated this exploration of forgiveness. The two quotes were: “When you forgive you heal. When you let go you grow,” and “Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.” I am not an expert on forgiveness by any means, but I…
Safety = Pleasure seems like a fairly obvious equation but there is a part of our culture that distrusts if things are too good. We have sayings like, it is too good to be true, or wait for the next shoe to drop, or knock on wood. NO, the more you pleasure your partner, the…
Last week I talked about quantum theory and the shift for me in how I coach Imago Relationship Therapy and stated: “because of advances in the neurosciences, our neural pathways are more malleable that we previously thought. Couples generally recognize that they have repeated certain behaviours that are not getting them where they want to go. Freud called it the repetition compulsion….
During the holidays I came across an article about Pope Francis. What caught my attention was the sub title “The secret to a happy marriage in just 3 words”. Naturally I was curious and wanted to know what the three words were. It turns out they were a small part of a longer letter he…
2 very parallel Christmas reflections. Reflections on Our Trip to South Africa 1976 – We had been in Zambia, Central Africa since September, teaching at a mission school. A fellow teacher, a Mennonite, invited us to join their family in Swaziland for the annual retreat for Mennonites working in Southern Africa. (South Africa completely surrounds…
A thought for the holidays. Years ago Alfred Adler coined the phrase: It’s not what you possess, but how you use it.” We always have choices. Terry Fox I always use the example of Terry Fox, a young Canadian man who lost a leg to cancer. Fox decided to run across Canada – over 9,000…
